Our Programs

Here's some of the programs that English 304 Community English has worked on in the past.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE TUTORING

This program was a special program of Logan and Chelsea.  Both of them take pride in their foreign language skills and started a bi-weekly tutoring program at West Virginia University's Intensive English Program.  Chelsea worked with Japanese students for a whole semester while Logan focused on students who spoke Spanish.  A number of volunteers also assisted them.

The semester long program assisted students who were at the University and staying in Morgantown for the full year.  With the help of our volunteers from our community, we were able to better their English skills in order to better their time in Morgantown.

GED TUTORING

This program was started at the request of the Board of Education of Monongalia County.  Many of the students who dropped out of high school needed a little extra help and motivation to do well on the reading section of the GED.  It has been a great success, and many of the students reported feeling more confident and more prepared for the test.  In addition, the students received much higher scores on the reading section after they completed the tutoring program.

AFTER-SCHOOL READING PROGRAM

This was English 304 Community Education's pilot program. With the much appreciated help of over 20 volunteers, we were able to tutor over 100 children with reading problems and bring them up to grade-level in the first school year alone!

The program is still on-going with volunteers assisting various after school programs in the Morgantown area.  If you would like to volunteer your time and efforts, please refer to our "Contact Us" page.
